Description

This six-day snowshoeing tour takes you through some of the most beautiful and isolated corners of Valais, Switzerland. The itinerary is split between two base locations: Le Châble in Val de Bagnes/Verbier and Zinal in Val d'Anniviers. Days one through four explore the Val de Bagnes region, including a magical valley overlooking a lake, a hidden forest trail with views of the Mont Blanc massif, and two summit hikes. Days five and six venture into Val d'Anniviers, with possible visits to the Zinal glacier caves and the historic Weisshorn Hotel above Saint-Luc. All accommodations are hotel-based, and local transportation is provided by minibus. The tour is designed for reasonably fit hikers with some snowshoeing experience, covering 10–15 km daily with roughly 700 m of cumulative elevation gain. All snowshoeing equipment is provided, including snowshoes, poles, and avalanche safety gear with training on day one.

  1. Magical Vallon d'Arpette -

    This easier day is a good introduction to our week of exploration. The Arpette valley is just as beautiful in winter as it is in summer; the walk begins in the forest and ends in the valley itself, which opens out onto some impressive peaks. We’ll use this first day to familiarise ourselves with avalanche rescue equipment.

  2. Forest and summit above Martigny -

    The hills around Martigny are ideal for snowshoeing. The combination of altitude and relatively gentle terrain makes it an ideal destination. Pine forests, larch groves, mountain pastures and peaks offer the chance of an epic descent in the afternoon.

    Today we’re off to the Verbier ski resort, but I’ll be taking you to a wild spot where there won’t be many tracks, and certainly far from the crowds of skiers. The trip offers a magnificent view of the nearby Mont Blanc massi

  4. Mont de l'Arpille -

    A must-see classic in the region is Mont de l’Arpille, but we’ll be venturing off the beaten track once again. Depending on the group’s fitness level, we’ll either head to the mountain pasture or push on to the summit.

  5. Zinal Ice caves -

    The destination is popular and less wild than on previous days, but the scenery is well worth it. The hike is a round trip, and is only possible if avalanche conditions allow. The highlight is a visit to the glacial caves – a unique experience.

  6. around Hotel Weisshorn -

    We’ll start the day with the funicular, so we can gain altitude quickly and easily. The walk will then take us through a peaceful little valley with spectacular views. We can stop at the historic Hotel Weisshorn for a coffee and their famous blueberry tart, before heading back down via a less-travelled route
