Description
At the Sacro Monte di Belmonte, where faith, art, and history converge, we'll start our descent through mixed woodland, following paths worn into the pink granite bedrock characteristic of this corner of Canavese. The route takes us downhill toward the medieval castle and church of the Conti di Valperga, ancient structures that have anchored this landscape for centuries. We'll pass through the kind of terrain that tells the geological story of the Alps—exposed granite outcrops, forest trails, and the transition to cultivated land. From the castle, we continue toward the vineyards at Granget, where the slopes open up and you can read the agricultural patterns that have shaped the region. The walk ends with a tasting of local wines paired with traditional Canavese products—an opportunity to understand what this particular soil and climate produce, and how the people here have learned to work with both. This is an easy day, more about observation and connection than physical challenge.
