Description
The ascent of the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière is one of the most rewarding high-altitude hikes in the Western Alps. From the Saut Dam above Valgrisenche in Italy, the route begins on a well-marked alpine trail. At first, you walk across gentle meadows. Then the path steadily steepens over rocky slopes and glacial terrain. As you climb higher, the landscape becomes wilder and more dramatic. The air feels thinner, and each step takes a little more effort, but the scenery makes up for it. Along the way, it's common to spot ibex, chamois, and golden eagles.The final stretch to the summit is steep but not technical in normal summer conditions. Reaching the top brings spectacular panoramic views over the surrounding peaks, sometimes all the way to Mont Blanc on a clear day. It's a memorable mix of physical challenge and stunning natural beauty.

Itinerary
- Aiguille de la Grande Sassière Summit - We start early from the trailhead and ascend through alpine terrain toward the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière. The route takes us across glacial moraine and rocky sections before we reach the glacier itself. We'll rope up for the glacier crossing and continue to the summit ridge. After reaching the 3,747-meter peak and taking in views of the surrounding French Alps, we descend via the same route back to our starting point.
