What should you pack for a guided trek?

Pack for weather you did not plan for: broken-in boots, a waterproof shell and warm layer, sun protection, one to two litres of water capacity, headtorch, small first-aid kit, hut sheet liner and cash. Group technical equipment is normally supplied by the guide.

Core list

Footwear and layers: broken-in boots, moisture-wicking base layers, insulating mid layer, waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves even in summer.

Hut essentials: sleeping bag liner, earplugs, light indoor shoes, small towel, cash — many huts do not take cards.

Safety and admin: headtorch, personal first aid and any medication, sunscreen and sunglasses, ID or passport, insurance details, and your guide's phone number saved offline.

What the guide usually brings

Ropes and group protection, a group first-aid kit, navigation tools and, on glaciated or winter terrain, avalanche and crevasse-rescue equipment. Confirm before you buy anything technical — it may already be included.

How heavy should my pack be for a hut trek?

Because huts provide bedding and meals, most walkers manage on 7–10 kg including water — considerably lighter than a camping trek.
